Before San Diego Comic-Con gets started, why not take a trip with the family to Coronado Island! Before you go, be sure to get our Tips for Visiting Coronado Island With Kids.Tips For Visiting Coronado Island With Kids

One of the best local hot spots near San Diego is Coronado Island. If you are attending San Diego Comic-Con, why not plan some extra time in to see some Coronado? While many couples love Coronado as a romantic getaway spot, it’s also perfect for families with kids.  Even Parents Magazine named Coronado Beach as one of the Best Beaches in the U.S. for Families.

Tips For Visiting Coronado Island With Kids

To take full advantage of destinations like Coronado Island, we recommend that you extend your Comic-Con trip by a few days, or even a full week, if possible. By doing so, you can hit some of the best that San Diego has to offer. Whether you come early, or stay longer after Comic-Con ends, there is plenty for you to do. We started out visiting San Diego by coming only for the convention, but we quickly changed that plan and now we stay a minimum of one week with the kids.

Here are some great Tips For Visiting Coronado Island With Kids this year. Not only can you enjoy a unique part of the city, you will be able to share some fun things with your kids in the process.Tips For Visiting Coronado Island With Kids

Tips For Visiting Coronado Island With Kids

Bring the stroller: With over 20 parks and tons of oceanfront areas to walk and explore, bringing a stroller for the little ones is a must. Not only will you want it, but you will need it. While there is a lot of parking available during the week where you can go back and forth in your car, it can get crowded on weekends making you want to leave your car parked in a central location and take to foot to explore. Wear the right walking shoes and prepare for your kids to walk or ride off and on.

Make time for the beach: This really is the star at Coronado. With miles of beautiful beaches, you simply can’t ignore the beauty there. It’s not listed in the Top 10 Beaches for Families for no reason! Load up on your sunscreen, beach towels and swimsuits and hit the beach for hours of fun in the sun that everyone in the family will enjoy. Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and reapply as needed.

Go to the beach at low tide: One of the best times to take kids to the beach is actually at low tide. This is the best time to look for seashells, crabs and other sea life on shore. Kids have a blast gathering things like sea glass and shells to take home as a souvenir. If you have little swimmers, be sure to also check out the tide pools near Hotel del Coronado.

Look into the Silver Strand State Park Junior Rangers Program: Since the area has a Ranger Station, check it out and see what great free information they have to help you teach and entertain your kids. There are usually great perks to being a part of a Junior Rangers program in a state park. The kids will love feeling a bit more important, and you’ll love that it’s free.

Plan to stay all day or overnight: This is one of the most important tips for visiting Coronado Island with kids. There is so much to do in the area, and tons to take in. If you can get a hotel room before, during, or after Comic-Con, this is one place that is well worth the splurge. This will give you enough time to spend all day looking around. If you can’t stay the night, or already have a hotel room booked elsewhere, we would still recommend allowing yourself most of the day for optimal exploring.

Heading to Coronado Island is a must when you are in San Diego: From the beautiful architecture to the fun food spots, great dessert places and beautiful beaches it’s a wonderful destination for both couples and families. Whether you are on a family vacation or out for a romantic getaway, you have tons of great choices to occupy your time at Coronado Island. Don’t miss out on the Hotel del Coronado and the beauty there when you visit the area.
