Summer movies, like Man of Steel, are such a big deal in our house that our kids keep movie lists and budget out their money for their must-see summer movies. Read along to see which ones my son thinks will be well worth the price of a movie ticket.
I asked him what movies were on his list. As usual, he list wasn’t short — he wants to see them all! But I asked him what movies he would want to see, even if he paid for them with his own money. That helped to put it into perspective and he narrowed it down to 5 movies that he wants to see — and will even happily pay for.
Let’s count them down backwards:
#5. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
We’ve got Percy Jackson fans in our house, so it’s no doubt this made our list. We’ve had some concern that it doesn’t seem like there is much talk about it yet, we hope that’s just because it doesn’t come out until August 7.
#4. R.I.P.D.
Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds are two cops in the Rest In Peace Department who protect the living from souls who won’t move on to the other side. When my son saw the trailer for R.I.P.D. he immediately took notice of the release date (July 19) and has been planning to see it. He says it has a Men in Black feel to it, and since he loved MIB, he’s got high hopes that P.I.P.D. makes him laugh just as much. Rated PG-13.
#3. World War Z
I don’t think our family could have a list of the summer movies to see with your son without their being a zombie movie on it. Well, unless there was none being released and luckily, there is. We love the suspenseful — and scary — trailers and this is one of a few movies that our entire family is looking forward to seeing in theaters.
#2. The Wolverine
Wolverine has been my son’s favorite X-Men since the first X-Men movie — and one of his top favorite superheroes of all time. He’s looking forward to seeing the story of The Wolverine after the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Release date of July 26, 2013.
#1. Man of Steel
Superman has always been one of my top favorite superheroes. I’ve always liked the back story to him and Man of Steel looks like it will prove to bring even more of that story to life.
While Man of Steel will be officially be released THIS Friday, June 14, movie go-ers have an opportunity to take part in an offer that that is the first of its kind…you can purchase tickets now at Walmart to see an exclusive screening a day early on June 13 (this coming Thursday).
