Video games are hardly ever cheap or cost-efficient, but there are a few ways you can save money on video games at GameStop.
GameStop has a few ways to shop and save that even the best gamers may not even know about. Over the last few years GameStop has really expanded the selection of items they carry from video games to collectible items like Pop Figures and more; so you can do more than just buy and save on video games (think holiday gifts, birthday presents, and more). So why not save money on it all?
Sign up with the GameStop PowerUp Pro Rewards:
You can pay a one time fee of $14.99 for a YEAR of GameStop PowerUp Pro Rewards and it’s well worth it. If you shop only ONE time a year around the holidays at GameStop you still get all the perks of the PowerUp Rewards without the hassle of the upkeep.
With a PowerUP Rewards Account you get these perks and more:
- Receive 10% Extra Trade-in Credit
- Save 10% on Pre-owned Items
- Paper or Digital Game Informer Magazine for 12 months
- Earn 20 points for ever dollar spent (more about this later)
Shopping the Sales:
GameStop has a sales ad. They do actually come out with a regular sales ad and a lot of the times the sales are a great way to save money. What’s great about the sales in the ad is you can usually get the majority of them online at GameStop.com as well. One of the top sale events they do is exclusive to PowerUp Reward Members with the Buy 2 Get 1 Free Sale (this often includes figures for video games as well as regular video games).
Coupons:
No, no you aren’t seeing things, there are coupons for video games. Here is yet another reason why signing up with a PowerUp Rewards Account is so worth it. Every year on your birthday (birthday month) you receive an email with a coupon for 20% off your purchase, no minimum amount of purchase needed even. If you are buying video games, accessories, or even all those cool figures they have and also have the PowerUp Rewards Account you are earning points. You can then redeem those points for coupons to be used on pre-owned or brand new items in the store.
Shop In-Store:
More often than not now many GameStop locations have Clearance Sections set up in the stores for merchandise that isn’t doing very well in sales. You can find all kinds of items from video games to little key chains which make great gifts! As every GameStop location is different you may be able to find one type of thing on sale at one store and something entirely different set of items on sale at another location.
Pre-Ordering Video Games:
If you’re an avid gamer or a die-hard fan of a certain genre/fandom you may already know you can pre-order the video games at GameStop. So why is this a money saving idea? You can put an initial $5-$10 down to reserve your copy and pay as often as you’d like until your balance is paid off (as long as it’s paid off by the release date of the game so you can pick it up) So if you have a child who wants this certain video game they can use their weekly allowance to pay towards the game and upon release of the game you can pay the remaining balance of it off. It’s a lot easier to pay that $5-$10 a week for six weeks as opposed to paying that lump sum of $50-$60 at one time right?
Trade-in Old Games:
Now they don’t actually have to be old games but if you have a video game sitting around that’s still relative (older console games are useless to trade in) you can trade it in for store credit to use for your future purchases. (They can add your credit to your GameStop PowerUp Pro Rewards Card). Having said that, the price of trade-in credit will always vary based on the game title and even the store stock on that title as well. Keep an eye on the weekly specials as they often run a special where you get more trade-in credit for select games or just in general (Trade-in Events may offer up to 40% bonus credit).
